Low Carb Barbecue Sauce

This barbecue sauce recipe is low carb, dairy-free, and gluten-free.

Almost all commercial barbecue sauces are full of sugar and/or harmful additives. Make your own low carb version and enjoy with ribs, chicken or as a dip.


  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 1 small onion diced
  • 3 cloves garlic
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1.5 cups chicken stock
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • 140g tomato paste
  • 1/8 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 2 tsps erythritol (add more if you prefer it sweeter)
  • 1 tsp dried basil
  • 1.5 tbsp Dijon mustard
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1/2 tsp liquid smoke (optional)


  1. Heat butter in sauce pan and sauté onion until translucent. Add all remaining ingredients and bring to a boil. Turn down the heat and reduce for 20-30mins until thickened. Let cool. Blend with an emersion blender if you want a smoother sauce.
  2. Sauce can be stored in an airtight container in refrigerator up to 1 week (if it lasts that long!)
