Gymnema sylvestre lowers elevated blood glucose levels, due to the gymnemic acids content of Gymnema sylvestre, which seems to inhibit the absorption of glucose.

Quercetin is a potent antioxidant which helps to suppress the aldose reductase enzyme, which converts blood glucose into sorbitol, which is strongly implicated in the complications of diabetes. Quercetin also enhances insulin secretion and protects the beta cells of the pancreas against damage by free radicals.
